The Uncomfortable FAQ

AKA The Elephants in the Room

The elephant in the room is the pressing  problem, biggest secret, or burning question that no one wants to talk about.

Maybe you’re wondering why guys insult girls. Or what to do if a friend posts on social media that they plan to do harm to themselves and / or to their ex. Maybe you wonder how to tell your family that you’re gay or transgender.

The more we try to ignore these “elephants,” the more they dominate.

Our anonymous “Elephant in the Room” Q & A system is a safe and confidential space for asking questions, sharing thoughts, or asking for help related to teen dating abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, gender-based violence, and other forms of interpersonal violence. All questions/ comments are anonymous unless you want to be contacted.

Elephant in the Room Peer Conversations

The Elephant in the Room Peer Conversations bring young people and members of their community together to talk about the gaps in interpersonal violence prevention and response, and come up with solutions and actions to fill those gaps.

Led by a Lead Peer Advocate facilitator trained to manage discussion, participants come together each quarter for a two-hour focus group session to examine the issue from diverse points of view, explore possible solutions, and develop ideas for action and change. The primary goals are to 1. Remove the barriers for young people who seek help when they are impacted by the trauma of interpersonal violence. 2. Engage entire communities in primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention work.
