Peer Support Specialist

A powerful, paid opportunity

Youth between 16-24 will have the chance to:

  • Be trained by MIKID
  • Get certified by AHCCCS to support youth between 11-24 with similar experiences.
  • Be integrated into the Real Talk Peer Support Program to enhance outreach and support to youth experiencing IPV through the delivery of peer education and peer support activities.
  • Get trained to provide a warm referral to service and support resources to meet the self-identified needs of IPV youth victims and survivors.
  • Provide non-clinical and strengths-based support and receive ongoing supervision and trauma-informed training to protect from vicarious trauma.

COMMITMENT:

  • 200-hour time commitment (Average of 5 hours a week, over a 40-week program cycle)

COMPENSATION:

  • $18/hour to start

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate two 12-session Real Talk Peer Support Groups annually, in person or online for youth engaged in a collaborating community organization. (Annual estimated time commitment: 24 hours)
  • Plan, promote and facilitate one L.E.V.E.L.™ Peer Response training a year for teens and young adults in your local community. (Annual estimated time commitment: 3 hours)
  • Plan, promote and facilitate 3 First Friday peer engagement activities a year in your local community. (Annual estimated time commitment: 15 hours)
  • On occasion, deliver peer education “flash dose” programs in person or online to youth in your local community. (Time commitment var; est. 10 hours annually.)
  • Participate in bi-weekly supervision meetings with the Program Manager and/or Clinical Supervisor (Time commitment varies; est. 40 hours annually.)
  • Attend and participate in a monthly virtual Peer Support Specialist learning community, self-care and team building activities. (Annual est. time commitment: 40 hours)
  • Plan, prepare and track outcomes for the above Real Talk Peer Support activities. (Annual est. time commitment: 28 hours)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Relevant lived experience with primary or secondary interpersonal violence victimization (domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and/or sex trafficking)
  • Successful completion of the MIKID Peer Support Specialist training and core competency test
  • Successful completion of BLOOM365’s 7-Dose Curriculum, E.V.E.L.™ Peer Response and Real Talk Peer Support Group Trainings
  • Age 16-24
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred

EXPECTATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Comfortable and competent with delivering education, outreach, and per support services to peers, online and in person
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Skilled at providing empathetic and non-judgmental support
  • Current Arizona Level 1 fingerprint clearance card and clear background check.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Willing and able to deliver peer support activities in person and online.
  • Ability to perform all above-mentioned duties with or without accommodation.
  • This is a contract service position or internship
  • County and Statewide (Arizona)
  • Hybrid delivery model: in person (detention settings, group homes, schools, population specific collaborating organizations) and online
